How to dispose of

Electronics

Electronics are banned from the landfill. It is illegal to dispose of these items in the trash because they contain materials that can be recycled into new products and because they could cause harm to environmental health. They are considered Special Materials because they cannot go in the trash OR the recycling bin.

Certain electronics can be disposed of through the VT E-Cycles Program. These items are collected and recycled at no fee to you. All other electronics are accepted but may be charged a fee for disposal.

What you need to know..

Vermont E-cycles is a Vermont state program that requires the manufacturers of certain electronic items to shoulder the cost for collection and recycling of their products once their useful life is over. For Vermont households and certain other covered entities such as small businesses (10 or fewer employees), non-profit institutions (501c3), and school districts (not private schools or universities), these items are accepted at no charge.
